Is Spirulina a plant?
No. Spirulina is a cyanobacteria (a good one) which grows in water. It’s not a fruit, not a vegetable, not an animal (100% vegan). Just a powerful cyanobacteria packed full of nutrition.

Why is this pasta more expensive than normal pasta?
Spring Spirulina may taste like a normal pasta, but the nutrients inside of it exceed the standard of normal wheat pasta. We believe in providing high quality, high nutrition food, and that take a lot of effort to deliver to you.

Can children have Spirulina?
Yes! Spirulina is suitable for people of all ages! Who needs a milky mustache when you can have a green ‘spirustache’.

How do I consume Spirulina?
Spring Spirulina fresh paste can be eaten on its own or with any other combination of food you desire. Same goes for our Spirulina powder, although it’s not advised to eat it on its own. See our suggested recipes page for some superfood Spirulina inspiration.

What is the shelf life of Spirulina?
Spring Spirulina pastas and powders have a shelf life of 2 years. The fresh paste, like any raw produce deteriorates quickly and will spoil after 21 days post-harvest, so eat up quickly!

What certifications does Spring Spirulina have?

All Spring Spirulina products have a Certificate of Free Sale by Thai FDA.

It is difficult to mix powder into a drink, how can I avoid green lumps?
If you add a small amount of water to the powder and let it absorb for a few minutes, then add more water and mix well. That should also remove the lumps. Or alternatively you can add powder to water and blend.

Can I freeze fresh Spirulina?

Yes you can freeze fresh Spirulina, but it should not be thawed out before using. This is because freezing fresh Spirulina ruptures the cell walls which allows some of the nutrition to leach out. If you do freeze it, it’s best to do so in a single serving and add a frozen portion to smoothies or food in its frozen state.

How much is too much Spirulina?

Spirulina is a food, not a medicine and so eating too much will only make you full and you are the judge of how much you eat. That said, it’s recommended to someone new to Spirulina to experiment by consuming 15-50 grams of Spirulina per portion. After checking energy levels and any reactions you may adjust the amount of Spirulina to consume as much or as little as your body tells you it needs.

Why is it green?

The strong pigments in the Spirulina mean that the Spirulina and basically anything it mixes with will be green. The pigments that cause this green colour host most of the powerful nutritional properties so it’s good for you!

I think I’m allergic to Spirulina?

Allergic reactions are extremely rare, but if you are concerned that you might be having an adverse reaction, stop taking it immediately and consult your doctor.

Why am I seeing a blue colour residue?

The blue colour liquid or residue comes from the blue phycocyanin pigment present in Spirulina. This pigment is a powerful antioxidant and it is completely normal for some of it to leach out of the fresh Spirulina paste, especially if it’s frozen.

Does growing Spirulina have a significant environment impact?

Because Spirulina is a type of algae, it consumes carbon dioxide and produces oxygen which helps our atmosphere. It also uses significantly less land and water to grow than other conventional forms of protein!
